Default New to Android....and i'm not feelin the love

I finally moved away from my Palm Pre with the Photon. I admit i should have came here first for some ed-u-ma-ka-shun. So i've had the phone just 3 days and the wifi on this thing sucks. It wasnt that bad because the 4gphone in my area is freakin fast. But now Sprints getting rid of unlimited data....ok another story. So whats up with the wifi on this phone. I've tried aome of the things on this site but has anyone pinpointed the cause or has a fix? Its sad that i can surf the net faster on my 2yr ole Pre (wifi) than this dual core monster. Help guys please or point me in the right direction.......like taking it back.

Check for updates on your phone. Settings, about phone, updates. Two updates ago they fixed wifi. Mine works awesome

The phone downloaded two updates when i got it. I've tried checked the updates and the phone says its up to date. This is a cool phone but i dont want to depend on 4g as my fast connection. For now i'm getting use to the phone but this wifi thing is making wonder is i chose the right phone.

    Wayne,
They aren't getting rid of unlimited data for phones. It's for the other stuff.

WiFi is as good or better on my Photon as it was on my Palm Pre. If you continue to have problems with WiFi, consider the possibility that your phone may have a bad WiFi unit.

Take it back to the store and have them check out the WiFi.

I made the switch from the Pre to Android a little over a year ago. I miss some things about WebOS, but I do not miss the Pre hardware at all. It was a really poorly made phone and the battery life was atrocious.

As for you comments about the WiFi being slower, I don't think so at all. No problems at all with my Photon and I don't find the data speeds slow. I will say that the phone has been acting funny since the latest update, which was awful. Big issue for me now is signal problems, which wasn't a big issue for me before.

Wifi on my Photon is weaker than on my Pre. When I have a couple of "bars" of wifi, it's plenty fast, but there are fewer places where I have those couple of bars. All the other radios on my Photon work great, and this is my second Photon, and both have been the same this way. Most of the places where I want to use wifi I have been able to get it, so it hasn't been a problem for me. But last week, at a hotel, my husband was able to get his computer onto the weak wifi, and the Photon just didn't see the signal.

But what's this rumor about Sprint eliminating unlimited data?

Just a rumor. They're keeping it for the smart phones, but getting rid of it for other things like mifi cards, tethering, etc. Your unlimited data is safe...for now.

If you're into rooting and unlocking your phone, you can install the Alien rom, which improves all signal performance (wi-fi and call signal)
