Welcoming... Me
So, been on these forums for a while, but just picked up the photon today, and honestly am quite pleased with my upgrade decision. moving up from the evo shift, three only thing I miss is the keyboard, and honestly, my choice was between this and the et4g.
so, is rooting this device really worth it?

Re: Welcoming... Me
Hey welcome aboard...it's truly a sleeper of a phone...I had the EVO 4G before switching to the Photon, and right out of the box I'm able to do everything I was unable to with the EVO-unless I rooted which I never did. So, depending on what your trying to do with your Photon rooting could be an option...

Re: Welcoming... Me
personally, I have found that there are not that many things that I am aware of that one NEEDS to root to achieve, at least for the average user. I came from the Palm Pre, which was "rooted" out of the box, and this is my first Android, but there are few things I feel I am missing out on other than basic UI, which I do miss from the Pre every day (I miss the keyboard too) . My wife still has her stock Evo, and complains that I have my Photon so customized that it is almost unusable to her. Give it a spin unrooted, and if you get bored root away. Either way, I think you are going to continue to enjoy this phone. Cheers.

Re: Welcoming... Me
I've found plenty to keep me busy without thinking about rooting so far. They've done a pretty decent job with this MoPho.

Sleeper is almost an understatement. I didn't know it existed until I started looking at Android devices. I really wasn't looking for an all-touch. But then I started reading and researching the devices Sprint had. For what I need in a Smartphone, the Photon was the obvious choice.

Honestly, I am getting used to motoblur, but I may go ahead and root and try a different rom... But then again every phone I've had since my g1 I've rooted...

It hasn't fazed me at all. Everything I've expected has been delivered in spades. Even with my usual usage, and without tweaking the settings for optimal battery I got just over 10 hours out of it today, and I wrung it out pretty well.
