Well, that makes 2 of us!

I did try last night to get an early upgrade from sprint so I could get a SGS3 but didn't work, so I told them to cancel my service. I have until Nov 22 to either root my Photon and stay in my cheap sprint plan or just let my service be canceled and get an SGS3 elsewhere and hopefully with a cheap plan.

So...I will also appreciate any help and advice I can get to root my Photon.

I have heard that 4G doesn't work on a rooted Photon, I hope that's not true since I normally get pretty good WiMax service.

I think there be some confusion being had here. it's quite easy to root your phone using the torpedo method. Rooting your phone doesn't disable the 4g radio, however many of the third party ROMS disable 4g. Since the last update that Motorola pushed out installing custom ROMS has been made impossible or incredibly hard to do.

So, if I want to root my Photon it would be easy. But what happens installing ICS or JB on my Photon? Or is even possible? I do have the latest Android 2.3.5 update. :banghead:

Since I never done any rooting to my phone I've no idea. I loved how easy it was to "root" my Palm Prē and my "PalmPad". Why can't Android be that easy??? :banghead: :(

If you can't do it through the above, pay someone to do it for you

Hope that helps

Its the stuff before all of this that I need help with. I am told to download a file, but not told how to use it/where to put it/how to install it. This is what I mean by "preparing" for the root. Being my first time rooting I would rather not brick my phone.

As for paying someone to do it for me, I currently have around $8 total, so I cant do that.

Go to http://forums.acsyndicate.net/forumd...ton-4G-General

Photon AIO One Click Root
This software is licensed under the WTFPL

Back Up All your Data, Account Names & Passwords

Watch all the vids and make notes, re-watch the vids again, read all the pages (I know it's a lot but highly suggested)

1) go download appropriate PC 32 / 64 bit drivers are there for your PC, follow instructions, when done installing drivers (do not have your phone connected to PC) reboot PC with no USB cable to Photon

2) download http://www.holyliving .com/ACS/st...4G-OCR-2.0.zip @ http://forums.acsyndicate.net/showthread.php?1924-Photon-AIO-One-Click-Root&

3) Be sure to Enable USB debugging on Photon

4) Use a USB port and not a hub

5) Watch the video's there is not much to it

I checked & I could still DL the file & drivers

If you search there are full instructions, that will vary, but the simplest & working is what I posted above

Hope that helps

Did you succeed? I haven't had the time to concentrate on this, but I may in the next couple of weeks. I'd really like to root my Photon and upload a JB mod. I haven't yet accepted the boot-lock "upgrade", so in theory I can do it, but like you I wonder about stuff like "how do I back this up?" and "where do I put those files?" and "will this work from a Mac?" The only phone I've rooted was the Pre, which was dead easy.

I currently have no computer to do any of this on.
