What happened to the ink and little sun unlock effects after Kit Kat?

If I go to the lock screen settings they are grayed out, not sure what option I have checked to make them be not available? Before the update I had a live wallpaper and the little sun/star whatever that thing is, worked. Guess they changed so it's no longer available with a live wallpaper as your lock screen. :-(

Yes it appears as the KitKat update has changed up the lockscreen and the way things are handled. HTC users are complaining and looks like Samsung users are too

Just a shot in the dark but try a live wallpaper and see if it returns.
