How is battery life on this so bad! I used to have an S4 and a moto and neither were this bad! I'm getting barely 6 hours! Here's a pic from earlier today... Any help? I just bought this phone and updated to Kit Kat BTW.

Re: Ughhh!!! This can't be right!

Can you please tap the chart and screenshot the screen that comes up there?

Something is making Android System overwork. It can be hard to figure out the culprit. You could try rebooting the phone, or shut it off and remove the battery for a few minutes before turning it back on, and see if it helps.

Welcome to Android Central! Can you also show us screenshots of your total screen time (just tap Screen) and the detailed battery graph that also shows your cell signal? Screen is the biggest battery drain in general, and a poor cell signal will also drain your battery.

Also, does this behavior continue after a reset? One thing to consider would be a cache partition wipe, which won't erase any personal data: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-9049

Download gsam, and post screen shots. Also, in addition to screen on time, screen brightness plays a big roll. For reference from my note 3.

Thanks for all the help everyone! Here's a pic from today... This includes about 3 sessions of charging throughout the day!

For GSam, you'll need to post another screenshot after you've charged up completely and then used it down to 10-20% again. The stats you show there only account for the last minute, which is presumably when you installed it.

What's your total screen-on time been?

This clarifies it a lot. The 4 hours from the original shot is from the last time it was taken off of the charger at roughly 50%. There are two main causes of the battery issue that are apparent even prior to seeing what GSAM comes up with when you get it fully charged and through a couple of cycles - The screen is on almost constantly or being toggled on/off all day long and thus the device is awake almost constantly as well. I don't see any real evidence of wakelocks but it looks like the device is in heavy use for about two hours at a time approximately 4 times during that 14 hour screenshot.

It was about 1. 45 hours in the first picture... I'll have to redo a test once I charge up the battery

You just bought the phone today? One thing to keep in mind is the battery will need a few charge cycles to get into the swing of things.
The second thing I am seeing is a relatively poor cell signal. Even though this is a smartphone, at its core, it is still basically a phone, and will kill itself to hold onto a cell signal, no matter how weak.
Third, I see a couple wakelocks, but very, very minor. I would focus more on the first two things I outlined as opposed to the wakelocks.

Thanks! I'm just really confused by this though. I owned a S4, Nexus 5, and a Moto X before and none of them were as bad as the note. I know there was a big hit with the Kit Kat update but I didn't know it would be this drastic. I bought this phone mainly for the battery (after I accidentally smashed my Moto x's screen) and it's really disappointing me. If this keeps up I'm might return this and get a G2. I hope I can find a fix!

I would just do a warranty exchange and stick on 4.3 IMO while the battery life isn't terribly different I found 4.3 better

I only been off charge for 5 hours but with 4 hours of screen time is great with 48% left with kitkat. I would give it a few cycles and see if it gets better

Is this normal? I was just doing some light Web browsing on wifi with low brightness. Note that Bluetooth, gps, and all other Samsung gimmicks are turned off.

You're right, that doesn't look that good. Show us the stats after using it more throughout the day, when the battery's down to about 20-30%.

I get about 6-7 hours of battery life with my phone while having high brightness on and using it heavily ( like screen on 90% during that time)
