I'm in a network vision area and I get 4g in certain areas others not, tower to tower pretty much and the 30 minute scan sometimes misses most of the areas that are lte enabled and I have to manually toggle data on and off to get it to refresh.

Is there any way to have that 30 minute default time shortened?

I may be completely wrong, but I believe this is written into the radio firmware. Going to ask my peers, but I don't believe you can change this unless you change the radio. Also, I believe if you manually edit the radio you won't be able to access the network at all. Again, going to ask others, but I'm pretty sure this is accurate.

There is a way to do this, but I should advise caution for two reasons. First, modifying any settings related to your phone's network operation comes with a certain level of risk. Second, modifying the LTE scan interval can result in significantly decreased battery life at lower numbers, and less-noticeable benefit at higher numbers. Choose wisely. If you run into any issues along the way, feel free to ask here, but as I don't have a Galaxy S4 (or any Sprint device, for that matter) myself, I won't be able to offer first-hand troubleshooting.

  1. Download "MSL Reader" from the Play Store. Run it, and make note of your MSL. It should be the last number it provides. Close MSL Reader.
  2. Open the stock Dialer application, and enter the data access code, which is ##3282#.
  3. Select "Edit Mode."
  4. Enter your MSL number.
  5. Select "LTE record."
  6. Select "LTE scan Timer."
  7. Change the value; values are restricted to between 5 and 30.
  8. Menu > Commit Modifications.
