4G surprise? (are not listed but is covered)
Yo!!!
I picked up my EVO this morning and the guy at Radio Shack mentioned the area was covered by 4G. I instantly figured he was just trying to hype Sprint and was just talking because Rochester, NY is certainly not listed as having 4G coverage. Well much to my surprise, I have 2 out of 3 bars of 4G coverage!!!!!!
Anyone else finding this or is Rochester a hidden gem? - 06-04-2010, 07:43 AM #2

There is 4G service active in many markets not on Sprint's list as they are being tested and built out before being turned up.
Note that if you call with issues Sprint will tell you that you are not in a 4G area and decline to provide much/any help which is understandable. - 06-04-2010, 07:49 AM #4

I'm in Rochester. I haven't picked up any 4G signal yet. I'll have to try in a different location. :^)

Yup, I'm in Rochester and the display unit at the corp store in Henrietta was getting a 4g signal. They said it is in and out and should be officially up at the end of the month/early July.

I seem to recall reading an article about RadioSHacks installing a 4G antenna in most of their stores... But it's only within a certain range of their stores. Of course as usual, I could always be wrong.

Each corporate Sprint store is to be a 4G hotspot within the month. I never did hear the RadioShack rumor confirmed.

I was wondering this. I can't get my pre ordered evo till the 2nd batch comes in at my best buy. Suppose to be next friday. I live in metairie new orleans area though. Have wimax built in on my laptop and scanned just to see if somehow I hit the jackpot. No luck. Sighhhh. 3g works really good for me here though so I'll be happy next friday!

I'll keep 4G on when I'm at east end fest and canal days just to see whats going on around other areas. The spot where im currently getting coverage is in Webster.
This is probably true for some areas but I'm in my living room about 7 miles from the closest RS (even farther from closest sprint store) so my coverage is definitely native. - 06-04-2010, 10:19 AM #19

Well, here in Rochester NY I was able to pick up a 4G connection while I was out at lunch. Note: We're not officially live for 4G yet. It will be interesting to see what localized areas will have 4G signal before official announcements are made.

4G is supposedly launching in late June here in Richmond, VA. I was able to get between 1-2 bars all day today. So maybe they are turning it on slowly here and testing before they go to full power.
