Default Out With The Old.. In With The New??

Okay, so I've been doing all sorts of looking at new devices and such, as I have an upgrade and will be getting a new phone on Sprint's network; my fiancee will be getting a new line.

My question is this. I'm in the greater area of Salt Lake City, UT. With the LTE still rolling out. Is it worth it to get a LTE capable phone now, or should we be looking at the older WIMAX type 4G phones? I've heard conjecture over the LTE ones being compatible with the 4G already in place but not at the LTE speed obviously. Is there truth to this? I could not find a clear answer. I'd love to have a next gen phone, but don't want to be stuck 3G. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No if you get a Wimax phone it will not work on the LTE network

No, Wimax and LTE are not compatible either way. If you buy a Wimax phone you will only get 4G speeds until Sprint decides to shut down the Wimax network. If you get LTE then you will only get 3G speed until the LTE network reaches your area. If you look at the schedule of cities mentioned here, it looks like they are being quite agressive at getting LTE nationwide quickly.

I would assume that if they sell you a Wimax phone on a 2yr contract then they would be obligated to maintain that Wimax network for the duration of your contract, but that's just my assumption.
