    Default Saint Louis has 4G!!!

I was just sitting on my sofa playing with my EVO (no, that is not a euphemism for masturbation) when I decided to see if I could get a 4G signal. The search lasted for about 10 seconds and then suddenly the phone locked on to 4G. I was shocked. I actually live just outside of Saint Louis and my apartment is in a wooded area that doesn't even allow me to pick up OTA HDTV signals most of the time. Yet here I am picking up a strong 4G signal. Sweet!!!

the official launch day for 4g in saint louis is jun 27. At least that is what the sprint rep told me. I live in the collinsville area hoping 4g will be here to.

Working fine for me in the Webster Groves area.
I pretty much work all over the city tho... haven't paid a lot of attention what areas it has been not working in...

I got a fair connection at work downtown St. Louis a couple of weeks ago...it wasn't as strong as I had hoped, but maybe it will get better by launch day.

Haven't used it long enough to test battery drain because I use Wi-Fi when at home. Signal bounces between 1 and 2 bars but I haven't seen the connection drop yet.

I actually live in Lake Saint Louis. I've really only tested it between Lake Saint Louis and St. Peters. While on I-70, the signal is very strong.

Good to see all the way out to Lake STL. Although in KC they did some exurbs yet missed significant pockets of city, even a few high income hoods. Hopefully there will be full metro coverage by end of year.

I also live in lake st louis, near 40, and from what I've seen, the reception is kind of weak. I'm hoping that since it hasn't officially launched yet, they just haven't boosted the signal completely.

I have a feeling that most cities will have some dead zones, although, I was expecting the 2.5Ghz WiMax to have much more trouble penetrating buildings than what I've experienced thus far.
I have verified 4G coverage as far west of Saint Louis as Wentzville. I have not done enough traveling to get a good overall idea of metro area coverage.

i'm at Market and Jefferson, by downtown, and if i'm in the middle of the building, the strength isn't that good. but if i get close to any windows, it goes up to excellent strength.

running some speed tests, it looks like i was peaking at 5.5 meg down. it varied a lot though each time a ran a test.

it also seems to be dropping and then reconnecting again quite a bit, even when i have full strength. anyone else seeing that?

I had 4g in Bridgeton yesterday. I live in Franklin County and have no signal there yet, Villa Ridge/Grey Summit area. It was really spotty driving down 270 going home. Had all bars on 44 from 270 but lost it right past 141 by Lone Elk park, and it never came back on through Eureka and further out.

^Don't use the Android speedtest apps as they often don't work well with 4G. Use:

I work in West County (270/Manchester) and live in Troy, IL. When I ride down 64 most of the way I see a 4G signal.

For a brief moment on Wednesday, 4G lit up at max strength by West County Mall, but it has not returned.

When is the announcement supposed to be? I'd like to get some 4G love out at the edge of the STL Metro area

I live in the O'fallon\Fairview Heights area. I hear that some people are getting 4g, but no luck here. I was hoping to pick up a signal since we are so close to the city, and I'm hoping that we will be able to pick up some signal soon. If we aren't ever able to get 4g, it's definitely not a deal-breaker/return for me or anything of that matter, but I will definitely be a little disappointed. Would really be nice to get some 4g.

shows 4G coverage in St. Louis now.

I'm kind of surprised by how small the 4G area is compared to other cities that have gotten 4G.

I wonder if there's any chance that the area will expand much at all in the near future, or if what they have on the map is pretty well it for the St. Louis area.

Got this tweet from @svinge, a Sprint 4G rep, after I asked about the possibility of St. Louis' 4G coverage expanding after its launch:

Sprint #4G coverage will continue to expand in launch mrkts & acrossU.S. What U see in a 4G city 2day willbe dif next month&so on
    Looks more encouraging!
