The best thing to do is to buy a prepaid SIM card with access to data, depending on the country you could get pretty good deals.

So just have Sprint unlock my phone to accept new SIM and buy the SIM over there? Sorry...my first foray into overseas travel.

Call them to be on the safe side, but my brother never calls Sprint when he goes to Mxico, he just gets a prepaid SIM card over there and his GS4 just works.

Going to the UK...3 days in London then taking the rail up to Cambridgeshire to visit a friend for a week...hubs will be searching old church records in Littleport/Ely for relatives and my friend lives nearby in St Ives so something for both of us plus the 10 year old gets a trip to remember.

I would just get a prepaid one over there. I believe it will be cheaper.

I called sprint international services today and asked about my brother's GS4 working in México, they said I didn't need to call them.

The Sprint GS4 is ready to work outside the US with any GSM network.

So just do what I suggested on my first response; as soon as you get to the UK, get a prepaid SIM card for your phone to use while there.

'Three' and 'EE' do good deals on prepay sims. Also international rate sim deals by Lebara and Lycamobile. If you can wait til you get here, pop in to a Carphone Warehouse, Three or EE store to check the sim will work, if you are not entirely sure. You can also search sim deals an Amazon.co.uk, though I was only looking at data sims recently.

I have lived in south London, but my late employer's mum lives in St Ives in Cambridgeshire, (as opposed to the one in Cornwall) and I used to go there all the time. If you drive in to the market square and the main shops it looks like any other nice small town, but walk through to the little bridge and river and look around and its like your transported back in time. Very pretty if you haven't seen. Enjoy.
