    Default WiMax deployment

Is Sprint still expanding their WiMax network or are they holding off while they decide if they want to switch to LTE? I haven't heard anything about new areas being added and I'm getting close to upgrade time. I don't want to get a 4G phone if there is no 4G in my area. I can go about 30 - 45 minutes north or South of my house and hit 4G areas but it hasn't expanded in the 10 months since I bought my EVO.

Just wondering if anyone has any insight into their WiMax plans.

The EVO sent this on its own...

Good question and i dont have an answer, but your going to have to pay the 10$ even if you dont get a 4G devices so that makes it worth it to get the best phone you can even if it has stuff you cant use right now.

    I recommend the Nexus S 4G.

Not sure right now, wish Sprint would've done it with a better company since Clear's in the hole.

But iirc, they are considering switching to LTE but honestly, I couldn't care less about 4G anymore since 1. it's not where I'm at despite heavy advertising and 2. it's still in the baby stages.

But you have nothing to lose by getting a 4G phone since they are still good phones on their own.

I think they are on freeze right now. Clearwire isn't doing the good an I know a few Clearwire projects that been pulled.

They just lit up Tucson around the UofA so some growth is still happening.

Nice to see my city on the list. Hopefully soon I'll be able to connect on more than just one side of town.

I like the nexus s but I don't think it would be much of an upgrade from the evo. I am waiting for the galaxy s II, that device has me salivating...

I guess it would make sense to have the 4G just in case... it was kinda cool to be able to use it today as I was out and about, and happened to wander into a 4G area. Just wish it didn't suck down the battery so fast

The EVO sent this on its own...

I was pleasantly surprised last week to see the 4G in the Selinsgrove/Sunbury area. Totally shocked me...

I believe that sprint and clearwire is just throwing up towers in some of these small towns around the country to keep the licenses for the spectrum they are leasing in that region but i think we will see alot more expansion once network vision is started and they transition to lte.

Default New Sprint 4G Cities List

I was the guy who posted the list of cities on the Sprint forum. For clarification, that list, and the one posted here in this thread, is a list of new unannounced cities. This list does not include the official already announced cities.

I see it says for the West Virginia area Charleston and St. Albans. I live between these two and I can't get a signal. Guess I'll have to drive into Charleston (only takes 10mins to get into downtown by interstate) and see if I can get connected. Probably the strongest around the capital.

If you are looking for the Sprint Forum link, it is:

If you are looking for accurate Sprint 4G coverage maps, I use the Clear Website. In fact, I amassed this list from looking through the coverage maps:

I have found that in the Santa Fe, New Mexico market where I live that the Clear 4G coverage map is very accurate. When you travel out of the green area, the signal immediately falls off. It's gotta be the most accurate map I've ever seen.

You'll need to go to the Clear 4G Coverage Map at: , or better yet, download the GOT CLEAR app from the Marketplace.

Zoom in on the St. Albans and Charleston areas. Drive in to a green area and turn on your 4G antenna. Then surf away!

4G service in the Charleston Metro Area is still very spotty, so you will need to consult the coverage map.

    Default St. Albans

It looks like the 4G service in St. Albans along the river appears solid. Just is very patchy once you go around the bend toward Nitro, or up the hillsides. The Dunbar area between St. Albans and Charleston is a dead zone.

Well I got the app and the areas they have 4G makes no sense! Instead of covering the most populated area they are covering the lest to almost non of the populated area in my part of the city. Looks like I'm going to drive roughly 5 mins down the road to the University to connect to 4G.

You are right about that. When I put together the Unannounced Coverage List on Friday, I was quite surprised at the areas I saw new coverage popping up. There seems to be no logical rollout occurring. However, I have had my phone for almost a year with no 4G coverage in my area. I'm just stoked to have service in my area, albeit in a less than convenient location for me.

For now I am just excited to see significant progress. Hopefully this is an indication of good things to come!

I couldn't agree more as I feel the same exact way. I'm just glad they are showing some results here, even though it is random coverage. lol

I also got my EVO in June and its been killing me to play with 4G. Now its my time

    MORE NEW CITIES...

I went through the Clear coverage map this afternoon to look for additional service since my May 20th update. I was happy to see more service come online for us Sprint 4G users. Approximately 20 more cities with some coverage. Nothing really earth shattering. But if you live, work or play in one of these spots, you are now smiling!
