I know that GB update is not out yet but when I try to check for updates it just hangs on the "checking for available update" screen. I am not rooted and have no hacks applied and am on stock 1.83. Any ideas?

Have you tried rebooting the phone?
What happens if you perform a check in by manually dialing *#*#checkin#*#*

I rebooted and plugged in charger and then tried it again and it worked.

This happens to me almost every time.I have let it set for more then 10 min with no response. I usually try this at the end of the day don't know if that matters. All I do is reboot and run the check again and it will respond with in a few sec. Have no clue as to what is causing the failure.

To just check you should not need to be on WiFi. With that said I am at home on WiFi and it still does not respond unless I have recently rebooted the phone.
