Before GB update I could just press button on my bluetooth headset and phone would wake up and ask "please say a command"
after GB update when bluetooth button pressed screen flashes then nothing goes back to black hibernation screen
BUT if I press on/off button on phone THEN it ask "please say a command"
seems screen stays locked until forced on.
tried power down and power up phone
has anyone else had this problem?

Check under the security settings. There's a checkbox to use bluetooth devices when the Atrix is locked.

It is glitchy for me as well. I think it may be the bluetooth device. If I hold down the bluetooth button, it will redial the last number for me. After that, a single press seems to work for a while. (I have the issue when using the Motorola T215 Speakerphone.)

I have checked and un-checked the "Allow bluetooth bypass" in settings>location and Security. I have also tried different bluetooth devices (Moto H270, Moto HK100, Jabra ). If screen is locked and I press BT button screen flashes but goes immediatly back to lock screen. If I manually unlock phone immediatly ask for a voice command like it was there waiting and couldn't unlock screen. I am in contact with Motorola tech support. They have not been able to reproduce the problem as of yet and was wondering if it was only my phone. I got the phone 3 wks ago and only installed launcher pro (free) then did the Gingerbread update and re-installed launcher pro. I will post any updates.

I thought I had it solved, but apparently not. It worked for a while, then stopped again. I'm not sure what is going on.

I have a similar problem on a 1wk old stock phone with a few apps. I found I had to turn it on to get it to answer the bluetooth button. It is a old Jabra Jawbone v2. This evening it wouldn't connect until about the 5th time of cycling bluetooth and searching for headset that was turned on. Then 5 minutes into the call the headset stopped working, I thought it's battery died so I switched to speakerphone. Later the thing wouldn't hook up to WiFi it worked with a night or two before. In fact the WiFi wouldn't stay on. A power cycle fixed the Wifi, I bet it fixed the bluetooth too.

I've heard of some phones that have to be power cycled periodically. I guess this brand new phone may have the same issue.

BTW the FAQ has rom 4.1.5. This phone (came with gingerbread) has a 4.5.91 build.

my workaround:
if I hold the BT button down the phone wakes up and begins to dial the last number in phone list
I immediatly press button again to end that call (unless that is who I WANT to call) and voice command will work if I again by pressing BT button before phone screen locks again (@30seconds)

hope they come up with a update to fix this...works but annoying

I'm do something similar. I long press to start the voice dialing process and once I hear it start I press the power button on my phone just to wake it up. From there it's works fine till the phone go back into deep sleep.

Oh deep sleep. I was playing with the battery settings and saw that in some settings it will shut down services after 15min of inactivity. I wonder if that is causing the BT problem. The service is forced off then when you wake the phone the service returns to normal. I installed Accupedo and after a while Android alerted me that it was still using battery and should be shut down. After that it stopped working for a while. Don't ask me why but it seemed to work once I turned WiFi back on. Maybe WiFi keeps the phone from going into a sound sleep.

I also have the Motorola Atrix and a Bose Bluetooth earpiece that has ceased working since the
upgrade to 2.3.4. Before the upgrade everything worked perfectly. When I would punch the button on the earpiece the phone would come out of standby and say:
"Please say a command".

After the upgrade it will not take the phone out of standby. I punch the button on the headset and I hear a beep but that is all. I have to get the phone out of my holster and manually take it out of standby by pressing the power button, then it will ask for a command. Totally defeats the purpose of handsfree Bluetooth.

I have called Motorola 4 times, we have deleted the connection, re- paired, same thing.
I have taken the headset to AT&T store and paired it with another phone that had the new upgrade on it and got the exact same results, it would not bring the phone out of standby.

I called Bose and shared the problem and said I thought it was a compatibility issue, so they are sending a new headset.

However it is NOT the headset, because after I returned the headset to them and was waiting on the new Bose headset I took out an old Jawbone headset, charged it up and paired it up with the phone, and got the exact same problem with a different headset. The Bluetooth Jawbone could not bring the phone out of standby.

SOOOOOOOOOOOO, my contention is that this is an operating system issue. That something occurred in the settings after the upgrade that is preventing the phone from working with the Bluetooth. I wrote on the Android Platform's Forum with the following, " I would appreciate it if you would do some testing with Bluetooth earpieces and find out what the issue is and let me know if there is going to be a patch or fix in the near future. This is very dissatisfactory as I need my headset for handsfree operation in the car. " and got no answer. So sad that they won't at least acknowledge there is an issue and they are aware and maybe attempting a patch. Sure would go a long way in giving us users some peace of mind to know they are working on the issue. I have tested and did all the trouble shooting to totally convince myself that it is not the phone, it is not the earpiece, it is Android.

If anyone has any good news about this subject please let us know.

New to the forums. I have the same problem. Until the update I was able to use my Plantronics Pro bluetooth to dial no matter what state the phone was in. Press and hold the button and listen for "please say a command". I keep the phone in an Otterbox belt clip and find it very difficult to take the phone out of the holder, unlock it just to make a bluetooth call. Seems the purpose of bluetooth is to keep your hands off the phone. I have been on the Motorola forums and they say "that's the way it is". Went to an AT&T store today...same answer. Hopefully this forum will have something more definitive to offer. Thanks in advance.

I know it's a moto issue cause stock android 2.3.4 on my Nexus One didn't have this issue. Bluetooth worked as it should when the device was locked and the screen was off.

So it was coincidental that it occurred with the upgrade? Gosh how I hate to deal with Moto. Seems like nothing but dead ends, and "that's the way it is" attitude. Thanks for the info.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens now that Google bought Moto mobility. I'd love to have a Moto device running vanilla Android.

I'm not convinced it is a Moto issue. I went to the att store and paired my jawbone with a different phone brand that was running the new 2.3.4 upgrade and it failed to bring it out of standby. Just as it does on my Atrix. This all happened when the upgrade occured, no coincidence. It may be a moto problem that it is on their phone but it is occuring on other phones too i believe.

My question is does Moto or Android monitor these forums at all, and if not where does one go to make them step up and agree that there is an issue. I have yet to find anyone at Moto willing to admit there is a problem and that they are working on it. They just gave me attitude as well telling me they had no way to talk to Android-Google regarding the problem. I related that if I have a windows issue I can pick up the phone and talk directly to Microsoft. What gives with Android-Google that there is no phone number for Support. Totally blows my mind. Had I known they were going to be unreachable I probably would not have bought a Motorola Atrix and a Motorola Xoom. I am really disappointed in the service end of this deal. They (Motorola and Google) should be willing to admit their is a problem and that they are working on it, rather than ignoring us.

I have called Moto 4 times and noone has an idea what the problem is. Go figure.

I agree with TexasEagle. I am monitoring both forums in Moto and Android. It seems the forums are nothing more than venting avenues. No one has any rock hard advice as to how to circumvent this problem. Moto seems to deliberately shun customer service contact. Android has no idea what they are doing, either.
Why is it, whenever I upgrade phones, I try to jump over the johnny-come-latelys and buy the baddest phone out there for it to have such a weak customer service base and to have glitches that shouldn't be there, and the upgrades compound the errors?
If anyone out there has contacts with either Moto or Android that we all can benefit from, please list them, as it seems the forum is lacking in either expertise or ability to contact the entity to begin with. Sorry to come down so hard, but it's a fact.

does anyone have a bluetooth that actually DOES work correctly with Atrix on gingerbread? If so what make and model bluetooth so I can get one and run test to see if it "wakes up" my atrix as it is SUPPOSED to while driving!!!

I got a level 2 phone number from AT&T chat yesterday. 800-734-5875. Talked to a lady at Moto who had no idea what I was talking about. She put me on hold to investigate several times. Finally she told me she would have a level 3 person call me within 24 hours. News at 11.

How 'bout news at 3:30. Got the call from Level 3 service. Tried to get me to put the phone in "never sleep" and keep it plugged in all the time. Great workaround, but I'm in construction and receptacles are few and far between. That wasn't a "workaround", but a bandaid on heart surgery. Moto has no earthly idea what is going on. At least their front line customer service techs, don't.
