Side loading... AppBrain?

Is AppBrain considered a side loading app?

I am wondering because I want to use AppBrain to reload my Atrix once it arrives since I use it now with my Inspire 4G, however some random posts are advising AppBrain is a side loading application and it won't work on the Atrix out of the box.

However, I honestly didn't think AppBrain was a side loading application as all it really does in the end is link to to the market to download/install and keeps a list of applications you have installed via the web site/phone app.

Anyone have any info on this? Thanks!

Is AppBrain even necessary anymore with the Android Marketplace up and running?

I mean - I'm new to Android so I'm not even sure - is there an advantage to using AppBrain?

I dont think its considered side loading. Side loading is like going to a 3rd party website other than the market and downloading a app from them.

That being said, you shouldnt need appbrain. Assuming it hasnt changed, you will sign into the phone using your google email and password and then go to the market and all your app's will be there. A word of warning though, I have done that many times when flashing ROMs on my N1 and if I went to the market on fresh wipe and downloaded only some of the apps and closed the market out, when I went back in the remaining ones I didnt download again were gone. Really frustrating but I learned my lesson, download all the apps I want before closing it.

Do you want AppBrain to manage your apps? If so, then I think you need to root it. Here is the if you prefer.

You do NOT need to do anything special to use Appbrain (other than downloading it from the market).

Appbrain and the Official Android Market are essentially the same thing, but Appbrain has more options, like sorting the apps by ratings (which Appbrain also has more of since it has been active longer than the Market), recommended apps, etc...

Both are good, which you use is up to your personal preference or you can use both.

No rooting necessary for both.

But if you want to bypass the Market and use AppBrain to manage the apps - meaning reinstalling from there, for one, which is usually a better process than the Market's default - you do have to root. That's my understanding anyway.
