My friend just got a brand new captivate running android 2.3.6 and I almost bricked it trying to root/rom (odin failed to write while the phone WAS in download mode). I don't want to risk messing up his phone so I'm asking here before I do anything stupid.

Is there a proper full rooting guide for version 2.3.6, or did I just get something wrong?

Here's all the info I can think of for his device if it helps:

Samsung Captivate AT&T
Build/Model/Whatever this number means: 1112
Android 2.3.6
The download mode logo is a green android instead of the construction yellow android

Any help would be appreciated.
