uuummm, help?? flashing question

Ok, I have a rooted rogers captivate, running froyo, buyt now want to try a custom rom, but I'm having some issues.

Well, so far, only one issue, but since I can't get past it, I can't get on to any other issues.......

I have gone thru the flashing directions as laid out by David Cogen here

but can't get past step 7, where you are in recovery mode and choose to select the package. I keep getting the error:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted

I hve followed the directions completely, donwloaded the zip file, connected my phone to my pc with the samsung keis option that pops up as soon as I cinnect my usb, transfered the unzipped file from my downloads folder to the sd card on my phone, but not into any folder on the card. then I go and unplug my usb, power down the phone, reboot it into recovery mode, select to reinstall packages, and we're up to that error code.

I have downloaded 3 dif roms, tried it with each, cognition, serendipity, and continuum, each give me the same code.......so what am I doing wrong???? Driving my nuts, been screwing around with this all day, got nothing to show for it

try downloading rom manager from the market, open it and hit flash clockwork recovery , then select your phone.... then reboot and try again

sorry, forgot to add that. I did already download the rom manager and flashed the clockwork recovery.

I went back in just now, reflashed the recovery, then used the rom manager to access the new rom on the external sd card, went into recovery thru the rom manager, still nothing worked....

watched another couple videos online, figured out that it was the internal sd card, not external....... re tried everything, still not working, same error.

I am wondering about the update.zip file on my sd card, that may be hanging me up, going to try removing it..... hope for the best.

well that didn't work, put the update file back onto the internal sd card, back to where we started. this is getting really annoying...........

I would have thought it would be the same? it's essentially the same phone as at&t, and the write up is showing it as working for both vibrant and captivate, so I would think it should applie.....

i would assume so also but you never know,,,look in my signature there is links to how to videos for the captivate made by connexxion 2005, maybe there is something that can help you

ok, good video so far. he showed that you need to be in the debugging mode, i was in the keis mode to tranfer the files. Of course, now that I figured that out, I ran into another problem....

I get this as I try to drag the .zip file into the sd card, wont let me drop it in....

try installing the latest drivers

did some digging, it seems this error is supposed to be s registry file error. So I downloaded registry mechanic, ran the full scan, cleaned up all the registry problems, re-ran the scan, nothing else showing. Problem solved, go to transfer my file over, and the same damn code comes up!!!!

Now I'm getting really frustrated with this entire process, and an going to bed before I end up breaking something. An entire day wasted, hours spent trying to flash a custom rom, and I have absolutely nothing to show for it..........

new kies update installed, can't see how to transfer data, just media files. Can't get anywhere with that either it seems.

Download the ROM zip file again. Sounds like your download is corrupt.

EDIT- Stop using Kies. It does nothing but shield you from what you need to know. Leave it on Mass Storage mode.
