For the life of me i can't figure out how to do this. Any clue? I'm running apex 12 gingerbread if that changes anything.

Open up your contact and after pressing the menu button, select edit.
To the left of the first/last name is a square with a shadow of a person in it and a plus sign.
Press on that square and you'll be presented with an option to take a picture or to get a picture from your album.

My phone doesn't have that on the edit contact screen.
