How Do I? Turn off startup animation, or at least mute it?

Old timer crackberry lurker and addict. And have been lurking over here for the past few months trying to get up to speed. Just made the switch, tons of questions and I'll just keep firing, bear with me. I only have 30 days to learn it or leave it.

Anyway the startup is annoying enough without having to be so loud. How do I fire it up in a meeting without the obnoxious sound?

noob question. Do I have to root my phone to find those files and change them? Otherwise I can't find them in my file folders.

You can mute the startup and power off sound by turning off "System Volume" in the settings of Sound and Display on your phone. But as for the animation itself. I don't really know.

Yes, you have to be rooted for that to work. You can turn down the system settings as mentioned by hnguyen.
