even if samsung does release the update to carriers, its up to AT&T to release their version to us. of course they have to "test" it first, aka make sure it works with all their bloatware. we probably wont be getting the official update until late october.

You should try being less vague. I have tried all of the GPS "Fixes" that I could find. I still can't get a gps lock.
I like my captivate, don't get me wrong. But why would these features not work from day one? Why should I accept these key features not working on a phone that I pay for? - 09-02-2010, 12:25 PM #9
I got my Froyo and GPS fix... didn't you?
j/k

You guys are right about being patient on froyo i think, but the GPS fix should def. be pushed ASAP....

clearly the gps fix needs to be pushed right away but seriously its sep 2 and not even late in the day relax. hopefully we see it sooner rather than later though.

I've only had my phone a little over a week and I am still learning how to use it, but as an experienced geek I've found it to be quite workable.
My GPS may have been a little slow locking in, but it does eventually lock in (and start bossing me around). Is the issue that it is slow? That's a function of the technology.
I did prefer the way my old brain-dead iphone always defaulted (very quickly) to triangulation until it could get a true GPS (which was usually very slow).
I have noticed an increasing lag as I go about my business. Does it relate to the number of apps and stuff they are bloating?
I will wait as long as it takes for a good working 2.2 OS. In about a year and a half I will dump this phone for whatever stikes my fancy at that time. Until then, this is it. - 09-03-2010, 07:44 AM #13

Haha....AT&T pushing out updates....that's funny. I won't have my hopes high on that. Even if samsung have the updates, don't expect seeing it from ATT in the next few more months.

AT&T is slow...so Im guessing maybe October if we are lucky...
This will be a sweet *** upgrade though. Wondering if i can upgrade no problems with my rooted phone. - 09-06-2010, 12:07 AM #20

I was having major GPS issues but I have solved it in 95% of all cases using the following steps:
I used the FIX as detailed here on AC
I downloaded and Installed GPS Status from the Market Place (free)
I use it to get lock then flip over to Navigator.
I just took a long road trip (21 hours each way) and the GPS works flawlessly - 09-07-2010, 06:26 AM #22

I have to laugh sometimes at people that say they are going camping or hiking into the woods and wish that the gps worked. Anyone who depends on the gps on a phone going into the wilderness is a fool. If you use it for that and get lost, you don't deserve anyone to risk their lives to rescue you.
Now if your a city person and want to find a restaurant, movie or street address, then your right about having a phone with a working gps. Driving in your car buy a tomtom or some other real gps device.
I have not found a phone yet that will pinpoint your exact position like a tomtom or one of the other's. If you depend on it that much they do make hand held ones where the battery will last way longer then your phone will.
Still I'm also upset it does not work and it should have worked from the get go. I just got one of those surveys from att. Do it and get a chance at a prize bs. I told them that the gps is worthless and it borders on fraud. That I am holding onto my phone since they and Samsung have told me it will be fixed sometime in Sept.Never forget my Brothers and Sisters that gave their lives on 09-11-01. FDNY/EMS, NYPD, PAPD and the Pentagon. Also those who are still dying to this day. - 09-07-2010, 07:08 AM #24
Fraud? That's quite bold don't you think? You weren't tricked or anything. You were just a dumbass that didn't properly review the device... GPS is fine. Everyone needs to be a little more proactive with their phones and make it work for them. Every single phone I have ever had I have had to work and make it my own and make it work great (except for iphone 4, ****in dropped calls and i hate cases).

Again you need to be less vague. "Make it work for you" When I buy a device I expect it to work like advertised. And waiting two month to get GPS to get a lock is NOT like advertised. I do not expect to unbox my device and then have to apply fixes, or wait for them to be released to use the device as I intended.
