Running non-android market apps
my friend has the Samsung Fascinate, and he can run non-market apps. when he tells me where to go to turn on this setting, i have no option to do so. after some searching, ive come to the conclusion that i can only do this if i root my phone, which i really dont want to do... is there any other way to do this? is this something that will change with Froyo?

You can sideload apps using this:

Word of advice, follow the directions carefully. Any apps you download, put in the same folder where the AC-SWM files are located - that seemed to work the best for me.
Motorola Droid > HTC Aria > Samsung Captivate (Serendipity 7) > Virgin Mobile Optimus V (CM7) > Motorola Atrix > HTC Flyer
