how do i change default text notificaton ringer

So i can change the not. Ringtones in the menu but no matter what i do t stays the same. On the menu its shows it changed but it keeps ringing as default. If i were to root it would that fix it. Hydr0 08mg

No need to root. Just install Ringdorid. Takes a bit to set up, but then you can do whatever you want with your ringtones and notifications.

Launch the stock messaging app and go to Settings> Select Ringtone. You're done.

Setting the notification tone under the main Sounds menu applies that sound to every notification that is set to Default. Each stock app that has a notification usually has an option in its native settings menu allowing you to edit its ring tone individually.
