Need help with AT&T Note 2 for use on T-mobile

I apologize in advance because I know it's been posted many times but I'm still very confused and am looking for a solution that will work in layman's terms.

1) I have an AT&T note 2 that I unlocked by downgrading to 4.1.1 and then updated back to 4.1.2. Took it to a Tmo store and confirmed that it is unlocked.

2) However, I hear that even this won't work on t-mobile for good data speeds and will only get edge?

3) What do I have to do to get at least 3G and LTE speeds?

I have an AT&T note 2 & am using T mobile. I get either 4G LTE, or edge. Even on edge, phone calls are fine, data is of course very slow. Luckily my area has pretty good 4G LTE. At home I use wifi. Good luck, you will love this phone!
