Default Notification bar stay on screen longer?

Hey guys! I am new to android. I've had an iPhone for 3 yrs. Is there any way to make notifications stay onscreen longer? They scroll at the top for barely a sec and then I have to pull down the menu. I'd rather have them stay like on the iPhone until I look at them. I saw that I can install different apps, but am hesitant cause of all the reviews I've read. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Are you referring to the preview of a text in the notification bar?

Frankly, when I used an iPhone, I disliked the notification pop ups, because when you had more than one at a time, you could only see the latest one on screen.

You would still have to open the messaging or email apps to check all suppressed notifications.

On Android, you get the message for a second or two, then an icon to let you know there is a message.
