Need help with missing settings

"go to settings, go to storage, go to preferred install location, untick SD card"

If someone could help, I apparently don't have the "preferred install location" option. I have a Note 1 and the option wasn't there with 4.0 or 4.2.

My first thought is that it shouldn't be. With ICS and above Google really is pushing to move away from external storage. I can't think of a single phone that came with ICS or above that even allows the install of a app to external storage.

So somehow I got stuck with the default install location bring on an sdcard and then they took that option away? Is there an easy way to reset all my preferences?

Unfortunately probably just a factory rest of the phone.
