Any idea if this variant will be able to do Wifi Calling? I sure could use it...

No. Att does not run an app to do calling via wifi. If you can find on in the market like Skype then yes but that apparently is not directly supported by att.

You could use Google huddle. It now works with iPhone for those who have not come to the light.

Can someone explain exactly what WiFi calling entails?

I'm assuming that would be me using my Google Voice number to make a call from my phone and it not actually be going over the cellular towers but through WiFi? Am I understanding that correctly?

You could do that with GrooveIP but since there's no Google Voice here in PR just yet I was talking something more akin to what T-Mobile has. An app to let you use your phone with your normal number to call using your WiFi connection. Thanks nonetheless guys, been testing reception all over my house this past week and it's terrific. Sad I had to leave Sprint but I couldn't get a single bar with them anywhere near my house lately.

Skype is now available if you like that. With videoconferencing now.
