How is the GPS on the SGS2?
GPS isn't SUPER important to me, but I get lost pretty easy and like that the iPhone 4 has GPS but I have a stand alone GPS (an older Garmin Nuvi) and it works perfectly.
I have seen some videos on youtube of people using their Android phones for GPS navigation and they seem to work just as good as my older Garmin. How is the GPS on the SGS2? - 11-10-2011, 12:40 PM #2

The navigation system works quite well and the appearance is on par with a decent Tomtom/Garmin model - I've actually given my old Tomtom to my wife to keep in her car, and just use my phone when I get lost now. Eats battery with the screen on but if you've got it plugged in that's not an issue.

The GPS works extremely well and as kielwb stated it really looks on par with a garmin model. That's the first thing that came to my mind when I first started it up. GPS is extremely important to me and I'm really happy with the functionality and appearance of it on the S2.

Re: How is the GPS on the SGS2?
I have found google navigation sends me a very round about way and I can't get it to go an alternate way. (Yes, I know where the alternate choice is but the way I want to go is not one of the alternate ways). That being said, if I know I want to go a different way, as soon as I turn on that other road, it picks up from that point and does ok after that.

GPS is the best I've ever had on a device. And I've had pretty much every device that has come out since last October. Excellent.

Re: How is the GPS on the SGS2?
Yes, that kind of bothers me. With my Garmin, I can select fastest route or shortest route. With Google Nav, there is only one way and it's Google's way, which is usually the long way around, for some reason. I'm still using my Garmin and with the SD card, I have easy access to my music.
My Garmin also saves me from having to pre-cache map areas, which is a bit of a pain since you can only do 10 sq mi areas.Don't breed or buy while shelter animals die. Save a life.

My first real use was last night and I was pretty impressed with the accuracy and speed of the GPS. much better than my BlackBerry was.

If you have not already, give the Swype keyboard a try, I have come to love it. At first I tried to do it very fast and it was OK. I learned to slow down if not sure where the next letter was and that helped a lot. Now very quick and amazingly accurate at guessing my intent.

Drove from Chicago to Atlanta and back with not even one single problem. Well, Pandora would cut out every so often when I drove through small town USA, but GPS still trucked along!
