where to look

I'm new to the android os and have a question.

I'm using Astro file explorer app and haven't been able to find stored data files from some of the apps I have on the phone.
An example is :
I use Handy Scanner..an app which uses the image you take of text and converts it to a pdf. I would like to know where the app puts the data.
When I look around in the phone for app locations and or data files for the apps I cannot find them. I have even hooked up to my laptop via usb and browsed with the win7 file explorer. I have tried to see if maybe the files are hidden but I dont know.
what do you all do?

You need root access and a proper File Explorer app to get to those files.

They are in /data/data

I just tried quickly with Astro and ES File Explorer and neither would show the contents of that folder.

With that said, I have been using Root Explorer (paid app) for a long time and it lets me into the contents /data/data.
