Hey i was considering rooting my GS3 and putting Jelly Bean on it.

I have been reading the posts and wanted to say thanks to all the people that put the good info up.

I was wondering if I need a PC (Windows) to root my GS3? I currently have a MacBook Pro.

Also I want to wait untill there is a "way back" if I mess up the root. Anyone know if there is a root method for the GS3 that has a way to restore it back to factory settings if I mess up or dont like it hacked.

sorry if my terminoligy is wrong i just became an android user.

thanks in advance.

So there are guides out there that show you how to root on a Mac. I tried the Heimdall method on two different Mac computers and it "failed to initialize protocol" both times.

Just successfully rooted on my roommates PC.

So ... yea you need a PC

JB will officially come to the GS3 "soon", which means AT&T may sit on it for five months after Samsung releases the update, but it WILL come out from Samsung at least. There are other reasons to root the phone, but if JB is your only reason, you CAN wait another week or two and see if there is an announcement about it.
