Is it a good time to Root my AT&T GS3 yet?
1st off let me appologize in advance for any misuse of Android terminology, I have only been using Android for less than a month.
So I have been looking all over the internet for info on Rooting my AT&T GS3 and loading a "Vanilla" Jelly Bean on it, BUT, it seems that developers are still in the early stages of getting the Root figured out, and pushing a Jelly Bean ROM.
My question is: Is it a good time to Root and flash a Jelly Bean ROM to my AT&T GS3? or should i wait, hoping that better Roots/ROMs will come out?
I won't Root my device unless I can find a way to reliably backup my phone. I have looked at Nandroid but I think that is out of date now.
Please let me know if there is a reliable Root method WITH backup and if there are any GREAT Jelly Bean ROM for my AT&T GS3.
Thanks In Advance. - 07-30-2012, 02:09 PM #2
Re: Is it a good time to Root my AT&T GS3 yet?
Jellybean roms are not quite ready for everyday use and/or someone with little to no experience with root. If that is your reasoning for wanting to root, I would just hold off for now and see if the jellybean over the air update will get released soon. There are of course other advantages to rooting the phone, and you could simply root the stock rom for now. CWM backups work just fine. You would have a reliable backup. Just did it to a friends S3 the other day, and there are still quite a few bugs left to be worked out. We've got some awesome devs hear though, so it won't be long!

Yeah sorry, I forgot that you did say you weren't familiar with all the terminology. My bad lol. CWM is clockworkmod. We don't use "download mode" or anything on rooted phones. This is where you install all your roms and mods and such, factory resets, backup and restore, etc.
I believe the s3 is CWM 6.0.0.7 if you wanted to look it up - 07-30-2012, 05:20 PM #5I'm a superuser

Someone whos been around the block a few times and knows kinda what to expect in terms of bugs and stuff could probably use it just fine as a daily, but I don't think its a good idea for someones first custom rom. It would be good to learn with something that wasnt 100%, but I think a new build would get overwhelming to someone new. Just my opinion. I could be wrong.
