I had a major battery plummet while asleep, I got 8 hours of battery time and there was only like 20 mins of screen time. Two things have changed. I got an Otterbox Commander Series case and I changed the security to PIN instead of just Swype. I've turned the security off and am going to see how my battery does. My signal has still been fine with the case, but if changing the security doesn't help, then I'll remove the Otterbox and see if that helps. If that doesn't, then will see about AT&T changing my battery out first.

I use a pin for security and have an Otterbox Commander case. No issues with battery life. 12 hrs and still have 64% battery life left

Don't know what has happened, noticed on the battery history, the phone kept waking up when I was asleep, at least about 20 times. I'm going to see how it works without the pin and then the case and the pin and if I'm still having a problem, going to get the techs here to flash the phone and then AT&T said if it is still a problem to make AT&T replace the phone.

Oh I did take the battery out for about 2 mins and then restart the phone.

Could it be his signal? It's all yellow. Then again. Mine is too. My battery only went down 10 percent when I was sleeping. And that was with the notification light flashing every two seconds.

I think that yellow bar is yellow all the time after JB update.

BUT it looks like my phone was waking up and going off several times while the screen was black for hours.

It does turn green. But only when the signal is near perfect.I just checked mine. And it has a green spot.
Mine wakes up quite a bit when the screen is off too. But if you look at your chart, it goes down at a pretty constant rate. Suggesting that whatever it is is always on.

Strange thing, only thing that was changed, new case and turned on PIN security. I just got off the phone with AT&T again and got a rep that is going to send me out a new battery.

But look at the "awake" bars vs the "screen on" bars. screen was off almost the entire time but the "awake" time was off and on all night.

I cycled my battery right when I bought it and haven't had any problems with battery life. This is with pretty heavy LTE use.

i updated to JB and all apps are up to date. currently, Google Maps is taking 26% of my battery. I have all location services turned off, GPS turned off...anyone have any idea why this would happen?

I've heard there is an issue with maps and you need to go into app setting and "uninstall updates" and then have it set to not automatically update in Google Play.

My battery life has been terrible. What is this 'Media'? It's always sucking up most of my battery. I rarely use media apps.

I think I have recovered a normal battery after going through several steps. I had performed a factory reset after the JB update and then added my music back to my microSD card.. That's when I encountered the battery drain from the media download problem. So I removed my microSD card and performed another factory reset. So far, my battery is performing normally again. I am reluctant to insert my SD card again until I hear a little more about this issue.

That's interesting about the SD card. I've actually had problems since updating to JB. I would get close to 20hrs before I hit 5% on ICS, and now I'm struggling to make 12 hours. Very little on screen time. My battery used to be great in the morning. By lunch I'd be around 80%. After JB i'm at about 50% by lunch. Usage is still the same. Still, 12 hours is better than any phone I had before...but it's nowhere near as good as the 20 I got before JB.

@Kelly Kearns Maybe it's your signal in your house. Mine is yellow when I have low signal. I noticed fast battery drain when I am at a low signal. Have you tried going into Airplane mode when you sleep? There's an option to go off 4G.

This is long but it's my history for the past 3 weeks. I am not tech savvy. Everything IMO. soo.. YMMV. I tried to get the same results where I got nearly 4 days of battery usage (probably 2.5-3 days under normal use). Initially heard someone get 2% during 8 hours overnight and tried to match but ended up losing my best charge messing with charging methods.

Current Phone Provider: SPH-L710 Sprint. Unrooted stock OTA JB 4.1.1 My data speeds are 1mbps for 98% of my area. Sad, I know. Had my phone for 3 weeks. We don't have 4G here.

Battery Draining Trend:
Currently inconsistent. ~2 days under normal usage YMMV. Approximately 1% discharge per 2 hours when not in use. The best (once) I've gone is 1% every 2.5 hours on standby. During on-screen use, I drain 1% every ~4 minutes and much more if I am downloading. This is during ICS and JB (now).

Battery Charging Method
Stock Samsung USB wire with LG Optimus wall adapter (Output 5.1V--0.7A)--I like slower chargers (Stock wall 5.0V--1.0A). Currently charging at 10% to 100% phone (powered off) for 3.5 hours. Pulled plug out. Wait for 15 minutes and reinsert until 100% shows up (~15-30mins). Pull plug and (optional - IMO ease battery strain) wait 10 minutes before turning it on. Will test out charging from 20-30% to 100% in upcoming charges. I pay close attention to how long it takes to go from 100% to 99%, 1% per X idle minutes, 1% per X on-screen minutes, how long did it take to charge and usually continue to charge the average time it takes. I associate short charging time (with the same charger) = bad battery/calibration. If it's been the same then, then a fast discharge must be from the the phone itself/app/corrupt file etc.

Personal Daily Activity
Mostly gaming and surfing the web. Data is always off. Wifi only when in use. 5-8 incoming text, 0-3 outgoing text; 15min-1hour online surfing/forum, 30min-1hour gaming, 3-4 2min calls; No social apps, No productivity app, No widgets, 1 battery stat app (ave voltage 3900mV, Temp 20C), 2 home screens

JB installation
I went from ICS to JB but did a full hard reset before and twice after installing JB. (Really tempted to do another hard reset) JB intially had bad discharge at 1% per hour with standby even though I charged to full when at 30% and then at 5%. To solve, I did a full discharge to 0% and recharge for 5.5 hours (taking out the plug and reinserting it at 2hr and 4hr because someone was hogging the charger so I dunno if it was fully charged or not). This gave the best battery charge (see screenshot nearly 4 days, wished I checked on-screen time too). One full discharge and charge, that's all it takes. Afterwards, more full discharges doesn't improve but might have worsen. Currently a charge last me 2 days. I believe I pulled the battery out for 10 minutes at one charging (can't remember if it helped but doesn't hurt to try ).

The oldest one shows nearly 4 days but the first 2 days of the 4 had barely any usage just to see how the battery drain. The last two days had fair amount of downloading gaming apps. I had used a 5.0V--0.55V Motorola charger.

My own question why does it takes 3.5hours to charge s3's 2100mah battery when it took 3.5hours to charge my Touch Pro 2's 1500mah battery???

Nope, no network issues here and there had to be something to cause the sudden issue overnight. I'm still thinking that my case was blocking signal and caused the sudden battery drain.

I've found Bluetooth is heavy on the battery, and GPS possibly. I keep GPS off except when I need it, and I use the charger most of the time when I'm in the car because I'm usually using Bluetooth.

Seems to be an issue with LTE. I turned off LTE before the charging finished and now this is my battery for the last 6 hours.
