Low on space!

Just got the message "LOW ON SPACE" In my notifications and not sure what to do about it.
Once i select the notification it takes me to memory usage and give me three tabs; downloaded, running and all.
i can only assume im getting this message because i have to many apps running. I have 17 apps/processes running
and have tried stoping them but the icon and the notification still remain.

Any ideas folks?

Space usually refers to actual space on the phone, not RAM.

Check the storage tab and see if you are getting close to full

Delete some of the apps you do not use
Also do you have a memory card? Save some of your stuff (ex. Photos, Music) on there instead of your phone

Two things to check:

1. Do you use your phone for podcasts? Do you download the episodes? Has it been a while since you removed old/finished episodes. They can fill up your phone fast.
2. Do you use Google Currents? That app will load your phone up with so much crap it's not funny. It caches every image on the Internet (well, it seems like it, anyway). Check the Currents folders to see how much stuff is in there.
