AT&T Galaxy SIII 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

Has the update been pulled or something? I just had to get a new S3 (sigh) after my old one kicked the bucket this morning randomly and the new phone won't detect an update/says it's up to date on 4.1.2

I got the notification to update a couple of days ago and did the update on Saturday. Since then it seems nothing is working well with my S3. The phone now takes forever to boot. None of my ringtones work. When I look at the settings they say "unknown ringtone" if I browse to them the Ringtones folder is empty but there is another one under another /0 subdirectory that has the files. If I select the one in the next level down Ringtones, it still shows as "unknown ringtone". I'm getting notifications of emails and messages that I long since have read when I start the phone up. I'd read something about booting to engineering mode and clearing the cache by hitting volume up, home and power at the same time on startup but that seems to do nothing but boot normally. How can I get back to a functional phone without just completely wiping it?

@blionel

To get to recovery mode, power the phone off. Press the up volume, power & home key simultaneously. Hold until the phone starts and you see the first boot screen, then let go of the buttons. The phone will continue to boot to a dos type screen. Navigate the menu with the volume button. Wipe cache will be a selection. Be careful not to hit factory reset, if you don't intend to do a full factory reset.

14 days and still waiting for update to pop on my phone. Tried every option in the book and reached out to both AT&T and Samsung. The only response they have is wait, but don't tell how long.

Any suggestion is much appreciated.

Was able to update to 4.3 and like the overall look and feel of it. One of the things I noticed that has changed is in photo's, when you open a pic and zoom the pic it used to adjust the pixels when it zoomed and now it doesn't... Why would they change that? Is there anyway to get it to go back to the way it was? Anyone know?

I wasn't really having any trouble with the update, other than the interface was a bit less quick to respond - especially the Home button. But I did this cache wipe, just because it sounded like a good idea, and things are a lot snappier now!

I'm not sure I want the update. With all of the hit and misses or possible issues. So my question is since I get the notification of the update ready how do I get rid of the notification?

You go to Settings>My Device>Accessibility>Flash Notification (2nd to last line at the bottom) - From here, if it's unchecked already, check it then uncheck it again and it should solve your problem.

On another note, after having the update for over a week now, my battery drain issue has seemed to work itself out. Now when my phone is idling/screen off, my battery drain is normal. Even during use it's back to how it was before.

Thank you very much that did work. Mine was allready unchecked and turning it on and back off again worked. Also cleared the cache as some suggested in developer mode and the battery life seems to be back to normal. Since they have decided to disable my hotspot widget, which I rarely used, I leave the phone on the 4G/LTE network now instead of the wireless and use more of their data.

Now I am a little irritated with AT&T. They have been trying to push the update for the past four days. I have been delaying, then three minutes ago my phone reset and the install began. It upsets me because I had no reason to upgrade. And I did not want to change the current funtionality. Can anything be done to get it back to previous version. And no I did not back anything up, because I was not looking to upgrade.

Just installed the update without any problems..However there's an unknown icon up on the notification bar next to the WiFi icon that looks like a white box with a dark "N" kind of graphic which I've never seen before..I have Juice Defender running in the background and the usual apps, am not rooted or have any third party launchers.. anyone know what this icon is? Phone seems to be fine otherwise, though haven't gotten calls.. What was REALLY weird was after the update, my Swiftkey app disappeared, so I had to install it again :)

That's the NFC symbol. You can just turn it off by opening up your notifications panel and then expanding it w/ the button in the top right. HTH

Sorry if this has been covered somewhere already. I have received the 4.3 push and now wifi will not connect anymore if I am still connected to ATT 4g. If I go into airplane mode and then turn on wifi it connects fine and remains connected. Go out of airplane mode and wifi dies. Spoke with ATT and they played a bit ultimately wanted me to restore factory settings. No way because I am not about to lose everything unless that is the last resort. Chatted with Samsung. They had me do a clear cache procedure. Still no good. They wanted me to factory reset. Nope. The person claimed Samsung is not aware of any issues. (LOL) I have read of others having the same problem. If you have a solution, please let me know.

OK thanks...I see the new panel and it's cool!.. Has there been a thread that tells us what improvements ATT included with this update? I obviously haven't been paying attention, though as I say, everything seems to be working fine, sans the minor issue of Swiftkey disappearing after updating..Battery seems to be draining at about the same rate as 4.1.2.. Wonder if we'll see Kit Kat anytime in the near future..

It's odd that some have this issue and others don't. The only thing I've noticed is now when I get a call the camera light starts flashing, if anyone knows how to turn that off, please let me know, I haven't been able to find the setting yet.

Its under the hearing impaired setting - its for deaf people who cant hear the phone ring to it lights up the flash to let them know they have a call.

Backing up is rumored to be difficult to impossible with a strong risk of breaking your phone in the process. People who lost their illicit tethering functionality have reason to be upset. If that's not you, enjoy the new features and fixes. It doesn't half suck.

Re: AT&T Galaxy S3 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

My galaxy s3 updated to 4.3 last night and I'm having the same issue as the first post regarding the pic download notifications not clearing. I clear the notifications and they just pop back up. Any ideas?

I agree, it is not as bad as originally thought. I had two issues the flash which I quickly fixed, and a PDF download notification not clearing. I am not sure how to clear that download notification? Any help from anyone would be appreciated. Otherwise the new 4.3 is pretty neat at least for me.

I am not having any further issues, I opened the download app cleared the particular file. No more download notifications not clearing.

Re: AT&T Galaxy S3 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

I usually avoid the updates, and I certainly should have avoided this one.
The off-center lock screen clock drives me crazy.
I miss the old digital clock widget as well.
The user icons in the messaging app are ugly and unnecessary.
Text message notifications are horrid. I miss the old circle notifications. Edit: and I can't open messages from the notification anymore. Swipe to open just unlocks the screen.
Can't turn off year/month/ etc tabs in calendar
Had the recurring file notifications (fixed)
Got Dashclock to rectify some of these problems, but it looks like the default message notifications trumps it. (I feel this was mentioned previously but now I can't find the post).
This update makes me loathe my phone.

Re: AT&T Galaxy S3 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

(This post is concerning the flash during an incoming call. I didn't see that this had already been answered above before posting.)

After checking it, placing a call to it (which flashed), I unchecked it and there was no flash on the next call. Perhaps there is some uninitialized data that doesn't correspond to the value of "checked".
