Galaxy S3 - Dark screen after boot

Hi there, so my husband cracked his screen a couple months ago and ever since the screen has been very dark AFTER boot - while booting it up it looks perfectly normal, but after the verizon logo appears it vibrates slightly and then goes dark - not black, just very, very dark. You can actually still read it - barely, and everything still works, its just very hard to read. Its almost as if the backlight shuts off and won't come back on. Any suggestions? He replaced the glass in the hopes of fixing it, but to no avail.

Could be that the display ribbon came loose when the glass was changed.
