Lol, so I requested access to the xdm tool and I was granted it. I have successfully updated 3 phones so far. It is a very simple procedure.

1. Turn off wifi and restart your phone. If you want, text me your imei and I will text you back.

304-382-2158 is my at&t work cell. I will work with you through texting.

2. I only work until 9pm tonight, and I do have other things to do so I may not be able to answer right away.
I will contine to look at this thread.

3. When I tell you ok, restart your phone, go to settings > applications > and you should see "unknown sources"

The three I have done so far took less than 5 minutes to do start to finish.

UPDATE: I will be in training M-F this week from 8am to 6pm (est). So if you want this done, message me after 6pm.

I think you should change your username to "the Merovingian."

I may need you if the gingerbread update resets my unknown sources to false.

lol. I was really suprised that I was granted access to this, as I was informed only ASR II techs could do it. It is an extremely simple tool.

Strange... pretty sure it was there on my iNfuse after a sw update ota... but not on the Inspire.

it should have been on the infuse out of the box. the inspire it needs to be pushed.

freeekin' sweeeeeeeet, Dilrod just hooked me up, It didn't take no more than about 3-4 minutes either. Just saved me a long call to AT&T. I was just struggling with trying to update that Amazon Appstore earlier, so I needed this. Thanks again dude.

Not a problem.

I do feel bad as I was unsucessful in updating someones phone. Seems like the phone was not communicating to the network properly. I tried pushing different settings and it rejected them all. But I figured out that I can tell right away if your phone will do that. I suggested to that person a master reset then we will try again. Also, I think I may not have to be at work to do this, so I can possible do it from home.

I will also be in training next week (Monday - Friday) 8:30am to 6pm EST so I will not be able to do any updating during that time.

oh sorry may have texted you past 9.

It's cool. I have the link to the tool, so I can do it from home.

I will be up for about another hour if anyone wants to try. Sadly it seems there is about a 25% rate of unsuccessful updates.

legit! It took 3 minutes for him to do it for my phone. Guess who has unknown sources now! Me

Is this the same way you activate the Third Party option on the Samsung Captivate? If so I have a family who will be your best friends....

Hey on another thread they had a way to unlock the feature from your phone. But now i can't send or receive mms messages and get a "generic network failure". Do you know how to fix this by any chance?

No clue. Sorry.

Just sent you a text with my IMEI. Thanks so much for this! I've been fighting with AT&T over the update for a while now. =/

For those that the updated has failed, are you on edge, 3G, or H+? Also, make sure you are not on the phone while I'm doing this.
