Well my Inspire now is sporting the new official Gingerbread Update.

But here are some pros and cons that might not be normally talked about. Please add your pros and cons to this thread of things that might not be so obvious that changed.

Pro: New HTC calculator has the mathematical operations on the right hand side rather than on top. It was awkward before...very happy about this.

Con: I really can't stand the App Drawer one screen at a time. I liked how I could fly though the app list before. I wish there were a way to fix this. Changing to the List view rather than Grid view is an option but I don't like how you have to scroll so much then.

I agree with you about the new app drawer. I hate how it's blocked off like that, I much rathered it when it was free scrolling. Not a big deal or anything, but just what I prefered. Other then that the new update is just fine to me, and my battery life is soooo much better.

....and my battery life is soooo much better.

I just installed the update. Did your improved battery life just happen or did they incorporate some battery saving settings in the update?

p.s. I agree on the appdrawer scrolling feature. I guess it will just motivate me to organize my folders better.

The desk clock has changed a little in 2.2 you pushed the moon and it would dim and go to the screen saver type clock like when you push the computer button next too it, but now it just dims the screen.

The AT&T symbol doesn't go away in the top left of the status bar. It used to go away a couple seconds after unlocking the screen.

I actually like the new App drawer, and some of the new 2.3 icons.

I hate that stupid at&t symbol. I despise it actually.

Battery life is better because under the hood there are better settings. No user input is necessary.
I don't like the new appdrawer either, but the grid is better than a list.
I use Folder Organizer to help organize my apps in separate folders.

There is a new feature under about phone called tell htc it looks like an error reporting portal similar to microsoft type of error reporting.

Has any one tried the new copy and paste? If you hold down on the screen it ask select word or select all this is much better.

Nope, I didn't have to do anything. After I restarted the phone and went to work the next day there was a HUGE difference in battery life. Usually my phone would be at around 50% by noon-1pm, but the first day with the new update I was barely below 80%.. it was awesome!

Was all set to do a manual update this morning then I decided to check one more time if OTA was available and it was. I've only had my phone for a few days so I won't really be able to tell the difference. I got the ability to MMS back, which I lost when I forced the "unknown sources" option last night. As for the AT&T symbol in the notification tray, it did go away for me. Not as quickly as it did before, but it's not there now. Perhaps after a notification pops up it goes away....The change in the app drawer doesn't bother me too much b/c I really didn't have much time to get used to the original way....Hopefully the battery improvement is true, since it seems to drain pretty quickly. Of course, that's b/c I've been playing with it constantly since I got it. Once I just start using it normally, I'm sure it'll be a lot better...Other than that, can't tell what else is different. Just glad I don't have to keep wishing for those damn updates to come.

I have noticed that if there is one unread text its doubles to 2, and if there are 2 unread its 3. So thats bugging me a little.

:EDIT: nevermind...meant to post this in a different thread. Mods, feel free to delete this post

I had an error at the top of my screen that said undownloaded message or some crap with a red exclamation point. when i clicked on them they diapered. Also i have been charging my phone since noon and it says that it is only 50% charged, it was at like 25% when i plugged it in.

I haven't noticed any performance improvements like the batter life. I have noticed that now in the Android Market, when I go to update an app, it says it's "downloading" forever and never actually updates the app. This is really annoying. I've also noticed that in the SMS function, it seems to do a lot of screen "flashing" that never used to happen. For example, when I press "send" it's like it wants to close the whole app out, but then remembers is should keep it open and opens it again...weird.

Overall, I'm not at all impressed with GB.

Seems much smoother....question though....when you go into close out apps running it doesn't show that they have been closed, I've been told that task killers aren't any good. What's the preferred way with gingerbread to close running apps? Any suggestions ....thanks

Since the update does anyones phone have a sound try to start to play or something when the weather UI does it's thing on the home screen and when you go to the weather screen? It sounds like it is trying to play a sound but only plays for a split second and stops.

Task killers are unnecessary because of the way android os runs whether froyo or gingerbread. Even apps that do not have an exit or logout option will only run in the background for a limited time before the os pushes them out (unless they are still being used). it actually makes the system run slower to use a taskkiller because it forces the slow reinstall of vital operations.

The only reason to force close something is if it is not working properly.

On another note, am I the only person that has removed the half-screen weather clock widget? Do I really need to see a graphic of the moon at noon because the damn thing hasn't properly synced in eight hours?

This is an issue with the new market update. Mine has been doing the same thing but I have yet to receive the gingerbread ota update.
