Default New Update for Inspire Help needed

You'll have to forgive me if this is a stupid question. I've only been a android user for about 2 weeks now, was an iPhone user for 2 years. With this new update, I don't remember getting an alert saying i have an update. If i did get the update and don't remember what would my new software number be? mine right now is showing 1.80.502.3 I think that is the old number. ALso to get the update without waiting for the alert from At&t do i have to use wi-fi and then check for update or can i hook up my phone to the computer and get it that way??

1.84.502 is the new one. U have to get it over wifi. Go to menu settings and go to software updates

    Default I tried that.............

and when i did, it told me i wasn't able to connect to a wifi. I looked at the two wifi networks they gave me and both are locked. I'm at work, if i was home i would be able to hook up with my home network because i know that password. lol So i guess i will have to wait. Secondary question. With android do all updates come via wifi? I know that when i had an iPhone they came through iTunes?

Yeah, you'll need to be on the WiFi that you can definitely access. From everything I've seen and read, all updates for android will need to happen over WiFi. Cuz, they don't want you to incur any overages on your data for updating. At least they are looking out for us on that respect.

I have checked a couple of times on two different wi-fi network (work and home) and it keeps telling me there are no updates available for my phone.

the update is probably not available in your area yet. at&t is a mega carrier after all. i live just outside of new york city and i was cruising through the Android Central this morning, heard about the update and immediately checked my phone but alas there was nothing.

they're probably rolling it out to the networks with extended backhaul already in place first. eventually it will cascade down to everyone. again, this is just speculation. i dont actually know if thats the case but it seems likely.

    EDIT:

i read on the other thread that HTC's servers can only handle about 10,000 downloads a day. basically, keep trying until you can get through.
