Thrive GPS

I just ordered a Strive and I have a question about the GPS function. I am a long time "Pay as you Go'er" and will not be using a DATA plan. Does the phone have some kind of a pre-loaded gps app? (I guess for google). Where can I get a "no data plan" app and maps. I would like to get something (free or purchased) that I can put on the phone and load maps on the sd card that runs in stand alone mode.

Good news and bad news-
Bad news- all of the stock mapping apps stream to a cache.
Good news- the phone has WiFi, and the data plan is not needed to use WiFi.
We have two Thrives, neither has a data plan, and one isn't even in service.
The WiFi works on that one too, even though the phone has no airtime and the number has expired.

Check out Co-Pilot. I think it will do what you want. It takes 2GB of memory space.

Google is supposed to have a new version of their maps that allows downloading locations offline.

Keep in mind that the GPS in these phones are A-GPS or assisted gps which ping nearby cell towers to help them get a fix on location (or uses wifi to get a more accurate location).

I would try the apps listed above. I have not tried out the google maps with just GPS.
