I recently bricked my Thrive and couldn't get KDZ Updater to work no matter what I tried, so I took it to one of AT&T's Device Support Centers. As it turned out, the technicians there had never even seen Emergency Mode before, so they gave me a replacement Thrive - or so I thought. It's looks exactly like my old phone, silver and all, but the model number is P505 both on the sticker and in the software build. Additionally, the above link lists the p505 as both blue and silver.
So, in short, if you manage to brick your phone to the point that it can't boot a recovery image and it hasn't been a year since you bought it, go to one of those device centers and get yourself a Phoenix! :D
