HTC Thunderbolt user here (Verizon)

just wondering if you are able to go on vacation to another country and use a SIM card from a carrier in the Note 2? anyone know?

my contract with the Thunderbolt is up sometime next month and I want the Note 2 but not sure if I will stay with Verizon or jump to T-Mobile. leaning towards T-Mobile since my coworkers all say they like the T-Mobile network

They can be but your phone has to be unlocked. As of January 26, 2013 it is illegal to unlock your phone in the USA without carriers permission. You will probably never have a problem since it would be quite hard to enforce such a law. But it is now the law in the USA. With that said you can ask Verison to unlock your phone and they can give you the code to legally unlock your phone. I told T-mobile I was planing a trip overseas and needed the phone unlocked so I could use it and they said ok.
