I have always used other devices, never Samsung. needless to say, I am quite impressed with the S2 - Easily the best device I've used. I've rooted all my other ones, for the most part, so that I could easily freeze all the crapware. Other than that, I never did much else with the root.

Is it worth it to bother rooting my S2 if all I want to do is freeze stuff?

If I do root, will I still get updates via KIES and/or otherwise?

Thanks

I rooted because I had to. I use the S2 as part of my "one man band" act, and it provides backing tracks at times. I needed some tweaks dealing with MP3 files I use, and could only find rooted apps for my purpose. For me it worked out fine. I do have a few other apps that did require rooting. A tether app comes to mind. AFAIK if you accept an update, whether through Kies or over the air, it will unroot the phone. I skipped the major update that was recently released because of this. I could be wrong about all this, as I'm new to Android (previous iPhone use....YUCK!) and maybe someone will have more info for you.
