I heard that this update is suppose to take away google search, and pinch and zoom.

you should have already lost device search. This one fixes some video playback, that people began to see once they downloaded the avengers movie.

This update has been available since the 18th via Kies. Vr2000sh is on point.

I just found out it doesn't work with a rooted phone, meaning the update doesn't process. Any thoughts on that?

You can't get OTA updates on modifies devices unless your running a stock recovery with triangle away installed so that kies and or the internal update process dont detect that you've modified the device.
