Possessed HTC Amaze - software or hardware issue?

I just received my HTC Amaze and I have had a couple of problems and since I am new to Android I don't know if this is normal or if I need to return the phone. Any advise will be much appreciated. A couple of times when I have opened the browser either from Google streams or from the App market, the browser acts like it is possessed. It zooms in, pans left then right, clicks a link, opens a new page. This keeps going till I shut down the browser, then the whole screen goes berserk, doing similar things. Twice I have had to pull the battery to reset it, and once I was able to just restart it to get it working again.

Is this normal or do I need to return this unit for a new one?
thanks for your help.

Doesn't sound normal. maybe you got a virus from a app you downloaded. I would try doing a master reset and watch what apps you download to see what starts to mess it up.

Huh... I wondered that myself. But the first occurrence was a day after I had gotten it and I was just setting up the scenes/skin for Sense. I will do a wipe and try it again and see what happens.
thanks for the input.

Ok, so I just did a master reset. Haven't downloaded anything on it and I tried to run google music and I replicated the problem again. Can anybody confirm if they've seen this using google music. Thank you!

Make sure your screen is completely clean and nothing on your fingers. I was using the phone with sort of greasy hands and it did exactly that. Same thing happened when the screen was all messed up from sweat after using it a lot and in very cold weather when i was outside. screen goes crazy. My hd2 did the same thing.

Thanks djdanska! I didn't know that. I just called T-Mobile for a replacement before I saw this. I guess if I called them and ask to cancel it might muck up the system. So I may just take the replacement I note this for the future

Ehh, don't worry about that really... iv'e used my phone after i just got out of a pool and it works fine... depends, might have been a virus, if u downloaded an app or it might have been hardware ( the screen), never seen anything besides ghosting sometimes...when the notification bar looks like theres another one behind it but thats "lag" sometimes... otherwise hope you enjoy your android experience, waiting for my galaxy nexus. But yea, take the replacement, somethings definitely wrong with that one...

If you haven't found it, ensure you have the Settings | Applications "Accept applications from unknown sources" or something like that checkbox deselected. You can still install some egregious crapplications from the Android Market, but I suspect this would discourage oddball installs.

I'm a n00b as well, using my work colleagues to steer me away from anything but tried 'n true apps. No shame in this, I encourage it to anyone getting their first Android device (as well as trawling through these forums!).

Thanks guys for all your input. And yes ChromeJob, I got that checkbox deselected.
UPDATE - I received the new Amaze and so far (knock on wood), it has been good. I haven't had any problems except with the signal bars sometimes jumping all over the place. But I checked Tmobiles support forums and it seems I am not the only person with that problem. But I am loving my Android experience, and I am usually installing apps that friends recommend or apps from "reputable" companies like Google :)

Even "reputable" apps like LinkedIn's can be questionable. A recent update was called out for suddenly asking for full sys logs access.

I believe its because HTC is GARBAGE! I had an Evo 4g until the charging port broke off the board at no fault of mine. I treat my expensive phones like gold. After pulling teeth to get a replacement without paying the $200 deductible, I got an Evo 3D. It does the exact same crap as your phone. It geeks out on me randomly. Sometimes the right side of my screen wont let me push buttons. Annoying! Im researching other phones.
