Should I root my HTC Sensation and flash a ROM?

I've read many articles about the benefits of rooting and ROM's like CM7, but I'm still not sure what i would do if I did that to my phone, and I don't want to ruin anything. Here are a few questions:

1. Which ROM would I use? I use Launcherpro on my phone instead of htc sense, so will there be a big difference?

2. What exactly are the benefits?

3. I heard the camera lags on CM7, a popular ROM I planned on flashing at first. I like to take pictures, so is this camera on CM7 a big issue?

Once you lay the groundwork, which took me about 2 hours including searching, reading, downloading and installing everything - it's quick and easy to change to whatever ROM you want to try.

I went with Revolution HD and I like it so far, but it's only been about 10 minutes.

Main benefits: Faster clock speed, removal of bloatware, and extended battery life, and endless customization options.
