How To Update My Firmware
Hey guys! My name is Nick (: So I'm an Android Noob, I'm in to BlackBerry's, I basically know everything you need to know about them, maybe even more. But right now my BB is messed up, so I'm using an old myTouch 3G until my contract expires. So I was reading a lot about my phone here, and I saw that there's an "Android 2.1" for the myTouch 3G. I'm not really familiar with updating the Android OS. So can anyone help me update mine? Right now I have version 1.6
PS: I found out about this site from CrackBerry. Just incare anybody wanted to know (: - 10-13-2010, 09:55 PM #2
The original Mytouch 3G is getting Froyo, which is 2.2, today and slowly being pushed out til the 26th. It'll be coming via OTA(Over the Air) to your phone, you'll see it when it comes
If you have any of the other Mytouch 3Gs (3.5mm jack and Slide) it'll come a bit later.

Ohh okay, thanks! So it's gonna come out on the 26th? And where do I hafta download it?

It's supposedly already coming out slowly. They're pushing it in batches and some will get it before others. They said everyone should get it by the 26th. You'll know you got it when it pops up on your phone and asks you to download it (more like forces because it'll remind you every half hour.) It'll also be a two part update, the second half coming roughly half an hour after the first part is complete.

Minor correction, the update seems to be rolling out a bit slower than expected, I received a text message yesterday that said October 13 to October 31.
I have not received the update yet. - 10-20-2010, 01:19 PM #7

I just got a text earlier this morning about it, not date specified though.
"Free T-Mobile MSG: Over the next two weeks, a 2 part Froyo Android OS upgrade will be sent to your myTouch 3G. Details: www.tmobile.com/myTouch-MR" - 10-20-2010, 10:17 PM #9

I just received the update this morning. The update process was very smooth and only took about 15 - 20 minutes to complete.

You're welcome, everything went smoothly I hope?
When I did it, I was surprised how easily it went. It seemed to preserve most of my settings but I did the wipe as recommended and then re-installed everything, better safe than to have a problem show up later... - 10-24-2010, 02:31 PM #20
I did it as well, everything went smoothly. Did the reset a few times but even then it still restored some stuff I had when my other mytouch was rooted with CM (some setting and apps.)

After messing around with it for a while, I was starting to get annoyed. It was pretty slow and laggy. I decided to root and install SetCPU and boy has that changed everything! I'm rooted but I didn't flash any roms over so I'm currently rooted on Tmo's 2.2 release. The phone works a lot faster than it did previously.
