Root to Solve Memory Issues?

I've had my Optimus T for about 5 months now and it feels as if I have been in a constant battle with the phones internal memory since about the 3rd month.

I don't know where all the memory is going or how to get it back. I have uninstalled all apps that I've downloaded that don't allow movement to the SD. Some of those apps I really need for my daily use. I have moved all videos and pictures off the phone and cleared every cache whether on the phone or SD. Cleared the data on any app that T-Mobile installed and won't allow me to uninstall that I don't use. I'm still stuck at 93% memory used and my phone will no longer let me sent/receive emails or text until it is below 90%.

I'm so frustrated with this thing that I'm ready to treat it like brick and throw through the nearest T-Mobile store window.

Is rooting the best option for me to gain control over this situation?

Please advise. Getting desperate.

The best way to solve the problem is to root the phone and create an ext3 partition on your SD card. The problem with moving apps over to the SD card is that the apk is left in phone memory despite the app's data having been moved to the card. In some cases (angry birds) the apk is 12MB! That will eat up memory quick.

So, here is what I would recommend:

1. Root your phone via z4root
2. Download MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition
3. Connect phone via USB and create a PRIMARY ext3 partition on your SD card. The program will attempt to keep your data on the SD card, but you should back it up just in case (just drag and drop all the contents of the SD card to a new folder on your desktop or something)
4. Download Link2SD from the market
5. Go through and link your apps to your SD card. You can even link apps that have widgets...they WILL STILL WORK. For example, facebook works just fine when using Link2SD.

My phone memory was full (I only had about 7MB left) after doing this and creating a 4GB partition on my 16GB card, I went back up to 90MB of phone memory. It is alot snappier too, apps moved with Link2SD vs the standard froyo method are a lot quicker...PLUS when you have your phone plugged in via USB and have the card mounted, all apps on the ext3 partition will STILL WORK.
