samsung exhibit 4g stuck on boot up screen untill the battery life is drained and shuts off

Samsung Exhibit 4g SGH-t679 was in safe mode, then battery was taken out put back in and recovery mode started up. once that happened options were choosen and stuff was erased... it's my husband's phone and also the culprite of the selection/the deleting of files. What information I seek is if it's possible to fix the phone now that it is stuck on the samsung exhibit 4g start up screen and stays like that till it's death. Could it be put into download mode(volume down, home, power) hook it up to the computer and add a ROM so the phone can function again? If this is possible then it would be helpful to be told step by step the process/what is needed to be downloaded. (ODIN? for the computer.... or any recommendations on firmware that's the best).
