locked Samsung galaxy s4 :(

Hey guys I need help, my friend gave me his galaxy s4 from verizon, and I have a sim card from walmart (family mobile) and I have bars but no 4g, do I need to unlock it or is there a free way to get my network to work, thanks guys

In case anyone else is still wondering about this, the Verizon S4 isn't going to get 4G LTE on the T-Mobile network because the Verizon version of the phone has the wrong radio. You need both the 1700 MHz and 2100 MHz bands in order to get LTE on the T-Mobile network (in most places. Your phone is the Galaxy S4 SCH-i545. To get 4G LTE on T-Mobile you have to have the SGH-I337, SGH-M919, or GT-I9505G.
