Default Texts are coming in 1-2 days after they are sent

I just moved to T-Mobile prepaid 4G with a Nexus 4 that I bought from google. The last few days, my friends are telling me that they have sent me texts, but I do not receive them. I turn off and turn on my phone and nothing happens, and today I literally turned off and turned on my phone and I got 10 texts from the previous day.

Is this an issue with T-Mobile or the fact that I am prepaid? I contacted T-Mobile and the just told me to remove my sim and put it back in...but I think there is a bigger issue. What should I do? Who should I call?

I really don't recommend prepaid because that just might be the problem. When I used to have a prepaid phone this used to happen to me all the time. What I did is I always dial number 5 and call jt for a few seconds. I don't guarantee it'll work for you but it always worked for me. The messages always started to come in all the time... Also another fact to keep in mind is that Tmobile is not a big company and their coverage is less than Verizon or Sprint. Tmobile is always having signal problems because they do not have enough cell phone towers.

Also, is your Nexus made for Tmobile or did you unlock it?

It has nothing to do with being on a prepaid account. I have been on one for several years and I never get delayed texts unless I was out of a service area when they were sent. Did you remove the SIM like suggested? It is entirely possible all the settings did not get picked up. Turn off the phone and pull the battery and SIM. Leave the SIM out and power back up. Then turn it off, pull the battery, replace the SIM and power up again. If that still does not help you might have a bad SIM. Take the whole shebang to a local T-Mobile and let them fix it. Make sure they text you while you are in the store.

I would say try this. It being prepaid or not shouldn't matter at all since a cell account is a cell account.. They wouldn't give you less service otherwise no one would be prepaid.

Not true. Sprint/Boost coverage is horrible in my neighborhood. Tmobile is smoking fast. YMMV.
Phone calls are just fine on my Prepaid Tmobile phone.

I had this (late text) issue on Sprint more than I have had on T-Mobile.

And I haven't had this issue on Sprint and I've had them for a year and a half now. I don't think it has to do with one particular network.. It has to do with the network in your area and how good your signal is.

It is an unlocked Nexus 4 directly from google. This issue seems to be fine now, but literally for 1-2 days I got no texts and I repeatedly turned off and turned on my phone and about 10 texts came straight through. I am in the Santa Monica area, so cell coverage isn't an issue.

I did hear that cell phone companies do prioritize the different tiered accounts if there is not enough capacity...for instance contracts always get the premium service if there is a crunch. I don't think that was the issue though, cause there was no reason for a surge in demand, but just an FYI.

The problem is that you can't tell when you are not getting texts, so just an issue that is hard to resolve.

Did you port your number? I don't know how common it is, but when porting to Google Voice they warn it takes SMS a couple days to work after the port completes.

I agree with the others - prepaid should be no issue. I'm on Solavei, a prepaid T-Mobile MVNO and my service has been great.
