I am currently on an "Even More" plan I started 11/2009. I have a blackberry 9700 and want to switch to the G2. I'm assuming there is no way to just extend my contract and get the contract pricing on the G2.

So with that assumption - is my best option to take the cancellation fee, start a new "Even More Plus" account with the G2 and pay for the phone month to month? I did some rough math and the monthly price would still be about the same since the plan is cheaper by about 20 bucks and I'm paying for the enterprise blackberry data now which would save me another 10 bucks.

The cancellation fee would be the full $200 since I'm not within 180 days of the end of my 2 year contract and then I may have to pay the new contract fee of $35 or whatever. So that would still be cheaper than paying for the phone outright and keeping my current plan. Though, I would be dropping the BB enterprise data so I would save the $10 on the monthly plan doing that.

So, for those of you more familiar with T-mobile, what do you think my best option would be?

My understandings is that the upgrade for Smartphones is a short cycle than for the dumb phones. I'd try talking to customer service and or retentions before shelling out for the ETF to switch to the EM+ plan. Remember, the EM+ plan means that you are off contract and will have to pay the termination fee in order to switch. There was a time when all you had to do was pay a $35 migration fee. I don't believe that that is in play any longer.

Ummm... Not Quite. I was in a similar boat as you because I also had a Bold 9700 and I was only 8 months into my contract and when I called T-Mobile and I asked for an upgrade I was able to get one. I talked to a Account Specialist to get to one when you call T-Mobile and the robot lady answers the phone say "Account Number". Be respectful, kind, and courteous and you should get an upgrade. Be kind to them and they will be kind to you.

How do I know this... I just upgraded to a Vibrant for $99 and I was 8 months into my 24 month contract.

Hope this helps
