Best Buy Nexus S AT&T
Just picked one of these up today. I am upgrading (downgrading?) from a Dell Streak. So far, I like it. Going to take a bit of time to get used to the different size of the phone. But it is fast and responsive so far.

I picked one up also today. So far I like it. All my purchased apps were in the market and Amazon app store had all of my apps on file so I could reload them also.

Re: Best Buy Nexus S AT&T
So, I went to Best Buy to get the Nexus S on "the deal".
The wireless department was a mob scene, with everyone standing in line just for the Nexus S. Of course, they ran out of Nexus S for ATT, long before I arrived at the head of the line. That, alone, took almost 2 HOURS, because they only had 1 employee trained in wireless sales procedures. Regardless, I was assured that the phone would be shipped to me, no problem, with a full warehouse stocked.
Today, I receive my order confirmation via email, and I decided I ought to follow up on it, to check the details of my order. To my horror, I discover they have shipped me the T-mobile version!
I phoned customer service and am told that this model works on ATT. I reply that it only gives EDGE speeds, not 3G. The rep replies that it still qualifies as an ATT capable phone, and if I don't like that, I can return it to the Best Buy store. She also informs me that there are no more ATT band Nexus S phones left at Best Buy warehouses, and there is no indication in her system that they will be ordering any more.
So, those of you who have scored an ATT Nexus S should be greatful. I guess I won't be joining you.
Any of you who have been placed on a warehouse shipment had better look carefully at the phone packaging, upon arrival. You may have been bait-and-switched the way I was. The T-mobile model number is GT-I9020T. The ATT model number is GT-I9020A.Last edited by attweco; 08-04-2011 at 01:54 PM.

Re: Best Buy Nexus S AT&T
Just as a follow-up, I tried to order the ATT Nexus S online at Best Buy, just now. No matter how I tried to order it, every time, the t-mobile version ended up in my Basket. I even went to the Samsung site, navigated to the ATT Nexus S page, clicked on the "Order" button, and, of course, ended up at Best Buy, with the T-Mo version in my Basket.
There is definitely a conscious effort being taken to sell the T-Mo Nexus S, rather than the ATT.Change is good! - 08-04-2011, 03:30 PM #11
Re: Best Buy Nexus S AT&T
I picked mine up yesterday too (AT&T). I knew I wouldn't be able to get one until after work (6:00pm) so I made sure to call before I left and luckily they had 4 left, but the girl that helped me was a total ditz, so I hope I was given the At&T version, now I can't wait to get home to check the packaging. Is there a way in Settings to tell me which version it is? I am sort of new to Android (coming from an iPhone 4), so I am clueless LOL

Re: Best Buy Nexus S AT&T
I got mines yesterday for the free deal. I was eligible for an upgrade on att. I went to the best buy closest to my house and waited in line for like 20 min to find out they were sold out. I got in the car and called the BB Mobile in the next closest mall and they sold out. Asked her to check inventory and I had to go an extra 15 min away. I got the number, called spoke to someone and asked him to hold it and I was on the highway on my way there. He told me he would hold it with no problems. The place was packed and there were couples getting the nexus 2 @ a time. I was paranoid that the sales person was going to be shady and not think I was coming and just give it to the next person that asked for it since they were there and I was on my way and they couldn't guarantee I would actually show up. Finally got to sit down with a rep after another 20 min wait and they did have the phone, the guy new it was me that had called and I got my phone upgraded and running within 10 min.
I came from an iPhone 4 and I am loving the phone so far. Its fast and snappy and love the no bloatware!

Re: Best Buy Nexus S AT&T
WOW! I did not even ask how many they had when I picked up mine at a mobile store in the local mall. I did get the A model. I would be pissed if they shipped me a T model.
Coming from a Captivate and this Nexus is smooth as silk! The screen looks so good even with an invisible shield on it!
The GPS is fast and accurate! (I had forgotten how handy that is with a captivate). The only thing I do not like is the camera has no zoom. What camera apps are you all using to get a zoom? - 08-04-2011, 09:19 PM #15

A T-mobile phone running on the ATT network can only attain 2g connectivity, i.e., EDGE speeds. For 3g speeds(HSPA) on ATT, you need the specific ATT frequency band. A T-mobile phone does not have that radio. This is why us ATT subscribers have been waiting soooo long for this particular Nexus S phone.

Re: Best Buy Nexus S AT&T
The suffix "T" version is the handset for T-mobile network. It will NOT give 3G if used on the ATT network. Only 2G(aka EDGE) when used on ATT.
ATT's network uses a different frequency band for 3G than T-Mo, which is why the manufacturers must release separate models for each network.
Best Buy has had the suffix "T" version all this time, because that model was released many months ago, for T-Mo.
The suffix "A" version has now disappeared from the Best Buy site.
Best Buy is saying that the suffix "T" version is for ATT because you can use it to make voice calls and 2G data on ATT. They very carefully avoid mentioning that you cannot get 3G connectivity with that model on ATT.
You would be crazy to buy a data-centric phone, like Nexus S, and cripple it by using it on EDGE only.Change is good! - 08-06-2011, 08:51 PM #24
